ABOUT SENDERELLA SURF
I'm Jane, a surfer, swimmer, Ocean lover, and secret mermaid. I was born and raised in Charleston, SC where I grew up surfing and living at the beach, but I taught myself how to shortboard in my teens. I've travelled all over to surf and what that has taught me is that the Ocean is my reason for living. I started sharing my passion for surfing 5 years ago by teaching surf camps back home. Then I began teaching private lessons for beginners when I lived in Puerto Rico. Grateful as I am for these times of my life, I've learned that I only want to teach to those who are committed, love the sport, and have great respect for the Ocean.
My lessons are geared for girls who really want to learn how to rip. Surfing is such a male dominated sport, which can make it very intimidating to paddle out or even ask for guidance. I went through years of not being taken seriously in the line up, being treated like a “kook” at my local surf shop, and especially having my waves taken from me by dudes , just because I am a girl. Because I taught myself how to shortboard, I went through all the trial an error on my own. I was too intimidated to ask for help, and no one seemed to want to guide me. These experiences are the foundation of my surf lessons. I want to teach the things I’ve learned over the last 12 years shortboarding to young female surfers like I once was.

SURFING IN SAN DIEGO
San Diego’s long coastline creates a wide range of wave types because of its mix of shifting sandbars, rocky reefs, and natural points. When swells arrive from different directions, they interact with these underwater features in unique ways—slowing down, bending, or steepening the waves. This is why some beaches produce soft, rolling waves ideal for learning, while nearby reefs can generate faster, more powerful surf better suited for experienced riders. Changes in tide and wind also play a big role, constantly shaping how each break behaves throughout the day.
Here is a ink to Surfline. Start getting familiar with our home breaks.
Seasonal swells can bring bigger, more powerful waves, but San Diego’s variety of breaks means there’s almost always a spot that fits your skill level. Beach breaks are softer and more forgiving, while reefs and points can create faster, more challenging waves. Tide, wind, and swell direction all affect how each break behaves, and for every lesson, we pick the best wave for your ability and the day’s conditions.
